Nomination Form

How the Nomination process works

Do I have to nominate a charity?

No. Many women like to just show up and give.  While all members have the opportunity to nominate a charity, it is not a requirement of membership. If multiple nominations for the same nonprofit are received only one will be entered.

What are the requirements to nominate?

The organization MUST be:

A 501(c)(3) or certain other tax-exempt organization, including public schools, public libraries and municipalities.

  •  Headquartered, or have an active presence, in Antrim County. This includes regional and national nonprofits that provide direct service to residents of Antrim County.

  • Our collective donation MUST be utilized in Antrim County.  For instance, the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy is  headquartered in Traverse City but their service area includes Antrim County. They would be eligible if our donation was used for a project located in Antrim County.

The organization may NOT be:

The organization is not requesting funding for any of the following purposes:

  • Endowment funding
  • Debt reduction or operational deficits
  • Grants to individuals or families
  • Partisan, legislative, or political activity
  • Labor or fraternal organization, athletic or social club
  • A regional or national organization that does not, or cannot, assure that funds will be used in Antrim County (i.e.The American Cancer Society)
  •  A political entity
  •  A religious or faith-based organizations unless their project serves residents  regardless of faith affiliation

What is my role after nominating?

As the nominating member you are responsible to give a 5-minute presentation. (followed by questions &answers session)  at the meeting about the nonprofit organization you are nominating. You may bring another member of the organization with you to help present,

Who can give or assist in a presentation?

If a representative of the nominated organization is a member of 100 Women Who Care,Antrim  County Communities or a guest who intends to become a member, they are welcome to assist with questions. Otherwise we look to our members to "represent" the nominated nonprofit.

What happens if more than one member nominates a charity?

Because we want to encourage members passionate about an organization to participate in the nomination process, multiple nominations for a single organization are allowed. When this happens, only the  first form drawn will be presented; all other forms for that charity are discarded. This ensures that we will always have three different nonprofits represented. The member whose form is the  first drawn must be the presenter. They cannot defer that responsibility to another member. Other 100 Women  Who Care chapters have found that this discourages “packing the ballot box.”

How often can a nonprofit be selected?

A selected nonprofit will not be eligible to be nominated again until two years after  receiving our first donation.

If a nonprofit isn't selected will it go back in the hat?

No. A member must resubmit the Nonprofit Nomination Form and be present at any future meeting in order to nominate that nonprofit.

Can a nonprofit nominate itself?

A nonprofit who doesn’t know a member may submit an entry and they can be paired with an existing member who would present for them.

Do I have to nominate an organization?

No. While all members in good standing have the opportunity to nominate a nonprofit, it is not a requirement of membership. Just by listening to the nonprofit  nomination presentations, voting and then submitting your donation, you are doing  your part  as a member of 100 Women Who Care  Antrim County.

What if I don't care for the nonprofit that is chosen?

It is expected that every member will support the selected non-profit organization  democratically chosen by the group. A possible exception is if a member has a conscientious objection to the use of her donation for the stated purpose.

How do I know if the nonprofit selected used my donation as intended?

As with any donation, we cannot guarantee that the nonprofit will use the funds as intended. However, a requirement of our gift is that a representative from every  selected nonprofit return to a subsequent  100 Women Who Care Antrim County meeting to share specifics on how our collective donation will be, or has been, used  to benefit residents in our  area.

Nominate

Ready to nominate a charity?

Great!

100 Women Who Care Antrim County Communities relies on our members to nominate nonprofits they know and care about. Share the organizations you care about, perhaps where you have boots on the ground volunteering, or wish to support without having to commit time. Present the importance of this organization to the 100 Women Who Care Antrim County.

Once you join our chapter, you may nominate a charity. You may have one (1) charity attached to your name at a time.  You may change your charity on record at any time.

Members desiring to nominate must complete a Nomination Form no later than the ten days prior to the meeting at which they hope to present.

  • Any member in good-standing may nominate a nonprofit organization to receive our collective donation.
  •  Organizations must be a valid 501(1)(3) organization or other qualified nonprofit (public school, municipality) that has an active presence in Antrim County.
  • We expect that our donation will be primarily used to benefit Antrim County residents.
  • The recipient charity must agree not to give out member information to any third party except for tax purposes.
  •  The recipient charity will  be expected to present at a future meeting how the funds were used.

Here are some details that would be beneficial to share at our meeting if your charity is randomly selected.

  • What is the name of the charity?
  • Where is the charity located?
  • What is the mission of the charity and what does it mean to you?
  • What is the annual operating budget of the charity? (i.e., how much of an impact will $10,000 have?)
  • How will the organization benefit from the donation?
  • How did you learn about the charity?
  • Can the charity issue tax receipts? Is the charity a registered 501(3)-C?
  • Will someone from this charity be willing to speak at the next meeting to share how our group donations was used?

If assistance is needed to complete the form please contact us via email at 100wwcantrim@gmail.com.

The nomination will be reviewed for eligibility. If it qualifies, the nomination will be included along with others in a random drawing of three charities to be presented to membership at the next meeting.
